I put the exact files I have used successfully myself onto Mediafire just for you:. First, on your PS2, use ulaunch.elf (from the FreeMcBoot main menu) to figure out the file path of your HDL elf file (aka where it lives on your PS2. It will be something like 'mc0:/BOOT/HDL.elf' or 'mass:/APPS/HDL/HardDiskLoader.elf').
Remember this path exactly. Write it down if you need to. Move over to your PC, and;aunch Codebreaker10HDLPatcher.exe in Windows, and you'll be presented with 3 editable text boxes that contain file directories. One for Memory card, and one for USB, one for Hard drive. Clear all three paths, so they are totally blank. Select the correct input box for where your HDL elf file is.
If yours is on your memory card, choose the memory card one. If it is on your hard drive, choose the hard drive one.
Enter the file path for your HDL elf file exactly as it was shown in ulaunch.elf. Make sure you have selected the Codebreaker10.elf file you just downloaded from me, and click patch. It will say something like 'patch complete' at the bottom of the window.
It doesn't make any noise, or even open an alert window or anything, it just says it where it is hard to notice. Just trust that if you clicked 'Patch' then it patched. Copy the Codebreaker10.elf file you just patched onto a USB thumb drive, and then copy it wherever you want onto your PS2. Use FreeMcBoot Configurator to add Codebreaker 10 to your Main Menu if you want.
Launch Codebreaker 10 on your PS2. It might take a second while it downloads a 'day one file,' which is just a current collection of cheats for pretty much every PS2 game. Select which cheats you want (making sure to also select the 'enable cheats' cheat within the game you're wanting to cheat with), and press start. Choose the picture of the disc that says 'play game' and press the 'X' button a couple of times. Let it do its thing. The screen may flicker or go blank a couple of times, but as long as you typed the path to your HDL elf file perfectly when you patched Codebreaker, HDL will open and you can choose whichever game you enabled cheats for, and they will work!
Thats all it takes. You can also use FreeMcBoot configurator to pick a button to hold while your PS2 is starting up so that will automatically launch Codebreaker when held. For example, my PS2 is set up so that if you hold Square while booting up, it launches into GSMS, if you hold triangle it launches into Codebreaker10, or if you hold Circle it launches into PSXLauncher. If you have any questions about this process, just let me know. When you patched Codebreaker, did you include the name of HDL.elf?
Did you type the file path as 'mc0:/BOOT/HDL.elf:' instead of 'mc0:/BOOT/'? You have to include the name of the HDL.elf Are you making sure to use the name of whatever your particular HDL.elf file is actually called? Ie, some HDLoader elf files are called 'HDL.elf' Some are called 'hdl08c.elf' I'm only saying 'HDL.elf' as an example. You need to use the name of yours exactly. If that doesn't work then try this: Download the two files again, and this time patch Codebreaker10.elf so the memory card file path is 'mc0:/BOOT/cblaunch.elf' Then duplicate your HDLoader elf file in 'mc0:/BOOT/', and rename the duplicate HDLoader elf file to 'cblaunch.elf' You will now have your original 'HDL.elf' file, as well as a file called 'cblaunch.elf' that are actually copies of the same file. Sometimes Codebreaker just needs the file you're launching after codebreaker runs to be named 'cblaunch.elf' I had to do this second method when I was trying to get Codebreaker to launch ESR. No matter what I did, it wouldn't launch ESR.
I just duplicated 'esr.elf' and changed the name of the copy to 'cblaunch.elf' and patched codebreaker 10 to look for 'mc0:/BOOT/cblaunch.elf' and it finally worked. I think that will work. If not, then I'm out of ideas. Codebreaker is picky. Good luck, and let me know how it turns out.
Ok, so I've recently started playing some of my old PS2 games and since I want to skip the level grinding parts, I thought it'll be much easier to just use Codebreaker. Oddly enough, I couldn't find the game in the list of the database for Codebreaker. The game is FF12: International Zodiac Job System, which is surprising to me because I thought it's one of the more popular PS2 games?? Anyway so I grabbed some codes online and tested it, and sure enough it works fine. The problem is, I have to enter those codes manually into Codebreaker, as well as the title etc etc.
It's time consuming and annoying. Is there a quick way to edit the database file on a PC? For those of you that use CWCheat on your PSP, that's the type of thing I'm looking for. You can easily update the Cheat.db file with new cheat codes, by using Notepad or any text editor. I've tried Google and searching the forum and oddly enough nobody seems to have mentioned this problem.
